You all know that Dame Helen Mirren is who I want to be when I grow up. Then again, I am probs not alone in that one. She is such an awesome woman. Sexy, talented, bawdy funny and one hell of a fashion plate. So many women reach a certain age and try and become invisible. They wear the same outfit that all the other women of their age wear. They don't speak up anymore. They don't want to make a fuss. I want to do the opposite. I have great plans for my later years. And they all involve Helen-type activities. If you know what I mean... And kaftans and turbans with jewels. And food.
Anyhoodle, while Helen is not in a kaftan, she is wearing a delightful little red dress - the hotter cousin of the LBD and only for the very daring - at yesterday's screening of the new film The Debt. I love how she has matched her silver hair and silver strappy shoes - and added the slash of red on the lips but not gone all matchy-matchy with the nails. Restraint is the hallmark of true timeless style.
Also in attendance was the film's other female star - you remember her - Jessica Chastain. Still not seen anything she has been in? This is her fourth major film release this year. I need to get on it. I think that the dove grey? peppermint? duck egg blue? tiered and strapless dress was sweet and very suitable - but it obviously couldn't compete with Helen's LRD. Nor should it. But Jessica had pulled out all the stops the night before in a nave blue Doo.Ri dress and Louboutins that I think was elegant and tasteful and sexy. That's how to do it lady. In colour.
So what do you think about all this? Dame Helen for the win, of course. But any advances on the colour of Jessica's dress? Let me know.
