So there are more boys that I like than girls on Idols this year. Go figure. Girls just don't win these things anymore, do they? Well whatevs the politics, I have picked my posse and I am going to fantasy style them, dammit. Along with my two girl picks, Nolly and Miss J, here are my four boy picks, starting, of course with Mark. The rocker. With a voice like Matt Bellamy and Adam Lambert, how can he lose? Probs he won't so what are we going to dress him in? Let's start with a slightly slimmer leg on his jeans. He can keep the jeans, but needs to make them more modern - and possibly in black, rather than just blue. I really hope that no one tries the whole black skinny tie and shirt - or worse a waistcoat - on him. It's just not his vibe. Vintage-style tees and jeans, that's our Mark.
And Kahludi I would put in formal clothes, with a slightly on-trend 70s bent to pick up the Lionel Richie thing he has going on. I think he is magnificent. So he needs respectable clothes, with a trendy edge. He can carry that off. Magnificent, I say.
Dear old Freddie needs to be put in a hair cut first. Let's clean up the face, give him a good scrub and let his cuteness shine. Then we can play. There is nothing wrong with his hipster style. It is, in fact, excellent. So more skinny (probs girls) jeans, grandpa sweaters with elbow patches or nordic patterns, a hat or two and allow him to break some of the stuff you put on him to personalise it. Awesome.
And finally Dave. The Ian Curtis wannabe. But I can't help liking him. He is a throw-back to my land of 'alternative', back in the late 80s and early 90s when it was all Joy Division, The Mission, The Smiths and My Bloody Valentine. This was music. Closer to blues and soul than any other rock music, this requires Dave to be dressed more 'intellectual' than the others. He needs a quiff maybe. Possibly glasses. And defs the lose, baggy shirt. But he needs a smarter shoe. Everyone knows you don't go full-junkie in your style. He could breed a whole new generation of goths, so more power to him, I say.
What do you think? Who are your picks? You know what to do.
