I really don't know what to say about this. Let me start with that this glorious cricket-preppy knitted dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. And I LOVE the pony tail. Love it. So far so good. But this malarkey of dressing in character for the occasion is starting to look a bit uncomfortable. We know that
Anne of Green Gables is
Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, fave novel. And she wore this cute knitted outfit for their visit to Prince Edward Island, where the movie of the book was shot. Um, ok. And this is a still from the movie of Anne Shirley, dressed not dissimilarly. I really don't know what to think. I will say this. I adore the way that these two royals look at each other, support each other and giggle together about pretty much everything they do. They seem SUCH happy people to be around and that is infectious. In a really good way.
The affection goes all the way through to the way in which Kate got out her camera and took snaps of her new husband while he flew his helicopter in a manoeuvre exercise. I mean, this is the most photographed couple on the PLANET at the moment with an entire press corps following their every move, clicking a million pics a second, and there is Kate with her lovely navy mac and red scarf (classic, divine) taking her own snaps for her scrapbook. Proud and special. (I made up the thing about the scrap book, but you can't swear she doesn't have one...)
Then the two of them were off to go Dragon Boat racing. For this Kate donned her skinny jeans (either Hudsons or J Brand) and some cool moccasins (get yours at Country Road right now). She may not have beaten William in the race, but she definitely won with the royal husband. Has anyone else from that family been photographed hugging at an official (if very casual) event? It warms the cockles of my ice-cold fashion heart and even I can overlook the windbreaker and life vest in such circumstances.
And as they flew away, Kate made one last 'costume' change for the day, replacing the moccasins with her usual wedges and bringing the chic to the show with her belted trench once again. On balance for the day, I can only score a 6/10 due to the whole AofGG thing, but I would love to see more of that pony, and more of those jeans. This made a welcome break from the shift-dress-and-court-shoes uniform. Nicely done.
