There I was minding my own business, flicking through the news channels with half an hour to spare before having to rush out the house. And I came across the Sky News coverage of HRH The Queen's Diamond Jubilee river pageant. It was just as the Queen was getting out her car to board the boats. And I caught sight of this outfit and I was hooked. Could there ever have been a more perfect outfit for such an occasion?
Just in case you forgot, it was the shimmering diamond of all jubilees. Forsaking all her bright pastel colours, The Queen went for shining white, in keeping with the occasion. Studded all over with silver, gold and bronze paillettes. All designed by her dresser Angela Kelly. It was perfect. It looked great on her. It didn't deviate too far from what we know to be her favoured style. And yet it was modern and beautifully detailed and right on trend too. It took a year to plan and make it. And it was worth it.
And that hat was magnificent too. The only allowance for the weather, a white wrap, later draped over her shoulders.
It was cute that her handbag was gaping open at first. Bossy old Camilla reminded her to close it. Camilla who looked lovely too in her new favourite colour, beige. She was wearing Anne Valentine with a Philip Treacy hat as she now does for all big occasions. Well done royal ladies. You brightened up my Sunday afternoon with your style and class.
