Usually when an actress attends a film festival, there is a photocall during the day for the press to ask questions and catch a glimpse of who has shown up to promote the movie - and then the premier that night for the actual screening of the movie. And she needs to have a killer outfit for both occasions. Some of the stars at the Toronto Film Festival have succeeded in getting this right, to a large degree, so this post is about them (the ones who only got one right comes later.) Let us begin with my favourite favourite. Elizabeth Olsen. She got it right three times, promoting her movie Martha Marcy May Marlene. The pre-event photocall saw her slam dunk the hippest labels in one outfit - Isabel Marant blouse and a See by Chloe leather skirt. So cool. Then she wore Euro-Canadian Erdem to the premier. He is known for his floral concoctions and this is as beautiful as any I have seen. And unexpected on Elizabeth. And finally, possibly the hottest label of all right now, Carven, was worn to the after party.
The super-lovely Freida Pinto had a disaster when her dresses were detained in customs on the way to Toronto so the red silk was pulled out of her hand luggage for the photocall. Her friend Sanchita Ajjampur designed it for her and she pulled it off with aplomb, if slightly crumpled. Of course the Valentino that she wore to the premier was spectacular and Freida continues to look flawless and beautiful at her events. Loving those shoes too.
Rachel Weisz is promoting her film The Deep Blue Sea in Toronto and she really looked amazing at the photocall in her Giambattista Valli leopard print dress. It was just racy enough with the print, but the simple lines of the dress kept it from being hoochie. Beautiful. Her Jason Wu eveing gown was also excellent and I love the pink bag as contrast to the grey and black print. But I am not a fan of the one-sided hair. Just saying. Otherwise, incredible.
And how adorable is that dress that Emily Blunt is wearing to her photocall in support of her movie Your Sister's Sister? It is Prada. Soft Prada. And perfect for Emily. Her evening look was a rather opinion-dividing jumpsuit by Christian Cota. Personally, I like it. It would have been perfect if the hem had been taken up a few inches. But I think she looked smoking.
So do you agree with my verdict on Elizabeth Olsen as the best of the best? Or do you think one of the other ladies took it? Let me know.
