I have to confess a few things. First, I don't usually bother with the country music shenanigans because, while I like a bit of alt-country, I don't actually know most of the mainstream American country music singers. Second, there are just so many country music awards shows that, really, it would be a full time job. And third, there often isn't much in the way of 'nice' things to say about their red carpets. I don't know if it is a country music aesthetic that I don't get, or whether there just is an overabundance of poor taste, or whatevs, but this one - last night's Academy of Country Music Awards - seemed to be a bit different.
I ploughed through the images, just out of habit, and there I saw the winner of the evening, Taylor Swift. Dressed in sherbet-yellow Elie Saab. A favourite of mine, but probably never before seen at an awards like this. So beautiful. I scanned on and came across Brooklyn Decker. Swimsuit model, actress and wife of tennis star Andy Roddick. Minimalist triumph, frankly. And those shoes....ahhhh. And finally, surfer Bethany Hamilton (who lost an arm in a shark attack) looked sleek and elegant in the navy sheath.
These three very diverse women managed to capture the current fashion spirit, look modern and appropriate for the awards and brings some style legitimacy to the event. Well played ladies.
And then there was Steven Tyler. Who defies style convention and brings a smile to my face no matter what the circumstances. That he was there is enough to make me interested in the occasion. Thanks guy.
UPDATE: That dress that Brooklyn Decker is wearing is new collection Victoria Beckham. No wonder I loved it. Shot.
