September Issue Winners and Losers: Which is Jennifer Aniston?
You all know that the Spetember Issue in the US is a big deal. You know this because you have all seen the compelling documentary of Anna Wintour. But maybe you don't know that the reason that it is such a big deal is that it features the fall/winter collections for the year - and the biggest amount of money that the US and European consumer spends on fashion is from these collections.
So who were the big winners and who didn't fare so well this year?
Well, the remarkable selling power of Jennifer-sad-and-lonely-since-Brad-Aniston continues apace. It is extraordinary how you can count on this girl-next-door being your top seller, pretty much every time. On the cover of Harper's Bazaar, the sales were up 22% year on year. Other than HB, there were no other big climbers in the fashion space.
Those that didn't fare as well were Vogue with Halle Berry on the cover - that was down 5.5%. And InStyle with the unappealing Hilary Swank, whose sales dropped by 6%.
Sadly the biggest drop was a wacking 10% by US Elle, who featured Julia Roberts on the cover globally. It was a great idea but it played very soft in almost all markets.
