Elie Saab SS11 Haute Couture Is So Very Pretty
So with only weeks to go till the Oscars red carpet, I am guessing that the shimmering beauty of the Elie Saab gowns shown last week at the haute couture collections in Paris are somehow going to make their way onto it. And they should.
In sherberty hues like lilac, chartreuse, blush and salmon - anchored by nude and black neutrals and punched up with a smattering of burgundy - the colour palette lends itself to girlie girls of which there are plenty nominated.
But this collection goes beyond just what is appropriate and dazzling on the awards shows red carpet (although let's never forget Halle Berry wearing his backless design when she tearfully accepted her Academy Award all those years ago. A classic Oscar look, I think you will agree from this Lebanese designer.)
This confectionary tale in Chantilly lace and encrusted crystals is a story of romance and character. It demands personality and style from its wearer to truly fill out the gowns. And yet it allows the talent and dynamism to succumb to the giddy notion of romance, and for the woman to feel like a pretty girl again. Who in the current age would want that?
I can't wait to see the women of substance on the red carpets in these gowns. I want to see them properly brought to life and all their gorgeousness set alight. I think they will be wonderful.
